My work is based on my observation and experiences of living within the cities of Melbourne and Adelaide (Australia) and my travels abroad. Many of the images are derived from train station environments, which contain a great deal of character and presence. As an Australian the concept of travel I think is a particularly moving experience and much of my inspiration derives from the desire to record those details which make environs foreign. If you take the most common item and isolate it, one is forced to look at it as an object in terms of its form colour and texture.

I work predominately with acrylic, however I add many components (dust, binders and artefacts) to the medium to enhance the feel and attitude of the surface. The process is at times particularly organic with the route of a drip or splash impacting the success of a work.

I have not been institutionally trained beyond secondary school as my father, Rod Bax a painter and teacher has been a constant technical and theoretical educator throughout my life and I am eternally grateful for his instruction and support.
