This body of work is a further exploration of a theme I have been pursuing for the last 6 years. Working towards removing subjects from their traditional settings in an attempt to coerce the viewer’s instinctive reaction. If you take the most common item and isolate it, one is forced to look at it as an object in terms of its form colour and texture.
The “found objects ” which dominate this body of work are media devices, the metal newspaper headline cages and the blank advertising light boxes found at bus stop shelters. In an attempt to isolate these images from the viewers traditional comfort zone I was enticed to remove their communicative functionality. These structures document our society through inter-changeable headlines and weekly advertising campaigns. If these broadcasting structures are in fact “Un-titled”, it encourages a greater body of thought into the intangibility of our existence.
I work predominately with acrylic; however as clearly seen in this body of work I add many components (dust, binders and artefacts) to the medium to enhance the feel and attitude of the surface. The process is at times particularly organic with the route of a drip or splash impacting the success of a work.
