“For me, these objects express and emptiness, a necessity without soul or aesthetics, but are the functional additions that describe Australian suburbia. Finding beauty I the mundane intrigues me, and have found the search to effectively represent them extremely satisfying. I have attempted to remove and simplify the subject matter in an effort to distance the viewer’s intrinsic emotive reaction to them. Deconstructing the objects to line and texture enables the form to be viewed in a complementary and fascinating light. Can a tea towel as a subject matter evoke an emotive response? Creating a sense of playfulness and toying with the inherent riddle can trigger a greater understanding of our sense of being.”
